An inspiration to me

I was at a point in my life where I felt complacent. I wasn't unhappy or miserable, but there was that nagging feeling of wanting more. I have gone back and forth with whether or not I should give school another shot for several years now. When I applied to CSN this semester, I noticed my "acceptance" from 2017 that I never went through with. This year, so many things happened that just pointed my life back in the direction of higher education. I've already shared some of those things in previous blog posts and discussion threads, today I will share another big inspiration of mine: Dr. Jordan Peterson. I started with listening to a lot of his podcasts and lectures on YouTube. I then bought and read his book, "12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos"

I could go on all day about the many things that he's said that hit home with a lot of the things I was feeling inside, but a few days after I enrolled in CSN (a second time) this quote was posted on his Instagram: "You are going to pay a price for everything you do and everything you do not do. You do not get to choose not to a pay price. You get to choose which poison you are going to take. That's it." Every day is a struggle (he says this a lot too), but I will gladly drink this "poison" and eventually it will turn to medicine when I have accomplished my goal.

  1. I definitely agree with the statement "you are going to pay a price for everything you do and everything you do not do" as the concept of opportunity cost cannot be denied.

I think Dr. Jordan Peterson is on the money in saying that the 'why' is paramount but I believe most people do know the 'why' for what they are pursuing even if they may not be able to clearly or immediately articulate it.

For you -- and many students -- I suspect the re-entry to higher education is to improve the livelihood of your loved ones, especially your child/children.

  2. Every decision we make in life is made for a reason, whether that be to teach you a lesson, make you all-around stronger, or simply fate. Have persistence and the desire to keep growing and moving forward despite any difficulties. :-)

  3. I agree with you, everything we do has positive and negative consequences.

  4. This is my first introduction to Dr. Jordan Peterson, thank you. I definitely agree with the quote, a price will be paid. Watching the video reminded me of the 4 E's from Jay Morrison, evaluate, eliminate, execute, and elevate.

  5. I don't know who Dr. Jordan Peterson is but now I am definitely interested in learning more about his philosophies. It's definitely helping me out today.

  6. I think its important for people to try to grow instead of just being happy with staying the same. There's always something to improve upon.

  7. I feel that everyday while I'm in school. If I had just done this earlier I wouldn't be paying the price that I am now. Everything happens for a reason and I like to think we're put in those positions to help us grow.

  8. I can so strongly relate to that last point. Sometimes school feels so overwhelming and I feel like I'm just making my life even harder by stubbornly going on with it. But its the poison I'd rather take.
